A quick lunchtime sketch of this powerful but rather secluded monument which stands in the grounds of Kelvingrove Museum car park. It’s very unsentimental with a soldier striding over churned earth and comrades’ bodies. My family has recently discovered that our grandfather fought in this regiment. He spent two years fighting until he was captured at High Wood, the Somme, and spent two years in a POW camp down the saltmines and was lucky enough to make it home to marry my grandmother. Well, we were ALL lucky he made it.
